Home-Maxxing

From 12 to 15 January 2027, Heimtextil returns to Frankfurt with a look at the future of spaces and textiles, where functionality, technology and wellbeing converge. At the heart of the new edition is a collaboration with Alcova

In an increasingly fast-paced and digital everyday life, spaces are expected to do more. They need to be functional and high-performing, while also providing a pause from the complexity of contemporary living. This tension lies at the heart of “Home-Maxxing – The Performance of Everyday Living”, the theme of Heimtextil Trends 27/28, developed in collaboration with Alcova. Taking place from 12 to 15 January 2027, Heimtextil will bring together around 2,900 exhibitors spanning the entire textile value chain, from fibres and yarns to decorative and functional fabrics, finished collections and solutions for hospitality, offices, healthcare and retail.

The concept of “Home-Maxxing” unfolds across three directions. Staged Competence makes technical performance visible, turning codes, numbers and micro-graphics into aesthetic elements. Inside, Out, meanwhile, brings what would normally remain hidden to the surface: seams, zips, cables, fixings and structures become part of the design language. Finally, Hyper Presence responds to digital overstimulation by bringing materials and sensory experience back to the fore, through natural fibres, tactile surfaces, patinas and traces of time.
Alcova plays a particularly significant role. As curator of the space dedicated to the trends, the Milan-based platform offers a vision of the future of textile design that goes beyond aesthetics, bringing performance and technology into dialogue with material quality and sensory experience. Patricia Urquiola will also contribute to Heimtextil Trends 27/28, presenting new pieces alongside developments of previous works and continuing her research into materials in collaboration with the fair.

Materials can regulate light, absorb sound and filter air, but they must also feel good to the touch, be durable and contribute to wellbeing without adding further pressure to everyday life.
Alongside the trends programme, Heimtextil 2027 introduces new areas such as Carpets & Rugs Excellence and Comfort & Connect, while the Functional Futures Lab, developed with Future Fabrics Expo, will present innovative materials and solutions for the spaces of tomorrow. Balancing performance and respite, technology and tactility, Heimtextil presents a vision of textiles that goes beyond their traditional role in interiors, positioning them as an active part of the quality of our spaces and everyday experience.
