In Paris, design travels through time

Design Miami/Paris returns for its fourth year to L’Hôtel de Maisons with its largest program to date. 31 galleries and over 20 monumental installations create a dialogue between historic design and the avant-garde, featuring works that span 140 years of creativity
Design Miami/Paris solidifies its position in the French capital with a fourth edition that is set to be its largest and most ambitious yet. From October 20th to 25th, coinciding with Art Basel Paris, the elegant spaces of L’Hôtel de Maisons in the heart of Faubourg Saint-Germain will host a record-breaking program: 31 international galleries and over 20 monumental installations for the Design at Large program. It's a journey through nearly a century and a half of creative history, staging a compelling dialogue between the legacy of great masters and the boldest contemporary experiments.

The quality of the program is affirmed by the "Best of Show" Awards, which this year recognized the eclectic vision of Salon 94 Design for Best Gallery Presentation and the sculptural Arabesque bench by Pierre Renart (maison parisienne) for Design at Large. The awards for individual works perfectly reflect the fair's temporal scope: the Best Historic Work prize went to a 1901 armchair by Frank Lloyd Wright (GRAF, KAPLAN & ZEMAITIS), while the Best Contemporary Work celebrated the Membrane Chair by Mathias Bengtsson, created this very year with proprietary software and presented by Maria Wettergren.

The exploration unfolds along three main themes. The first is discovery, with the arrival of numerous galleries making their Parisian debut. Among them, Modernity brings rare gems of Nordic design, Pulp Galerie reinterprets radical design with pieces by Gaetano Pesce and Ross Lovegrove, and The A/P Room (Dubai) bridges Brazilian modernism with new creations by Rogan Gregory.

The second theme is dedicated to contemporary research, with galleries unveiling new commissions and collaborations. Galerie SCENE OUVERTE presents an alpaca desk by Studio Lugo, Hostler Burrows showcases sculptural furniture by Gal Gaon, and Galerie MiniMasterpiece reveals the first-ever artist jewelry by Franz Erhard Walther. Finally, rediscovery focuses on historic works of exceptional provenance. Highlights include a music cabinet by Josef Hoffmann (1912), never before exhibited and presented by Yves Macaux Gallery, alongside a rare lamp by Alberto Giacometti (Galerie Chastel-Maréchal) and an exploration of Japanese design by SIDE GALLERY.

The Design at Large program transforms the outdoor spaces into an open-air museum. Visitors are welcomed by François-Xavier Lalanne's Le Très Grand Ours, a three-meter-high bronze bear (Mitterrand), while the garden features Jean Prouvé's 6x6 Demountable House (Galerie Patrick Seguin), reinterpreted as a teahouse. Also making its debut is Volumnia with a walk-in pavilion by Michele De Lucchi. Rounding out the program is the Designers of Tomorrow initiative, a collaboration with Apple that promotes four emerging talents on the theme "Design for Presence." Numerous special projects also feature, including the Range Rover Gallery, new creations from Sèvres & Mobilier National, and a leather marquetry project by Martino Gamper and Gary Hume for Giobagnara.
