CSI Europe Hamburg: a successful debut

The European edition of Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo, held for the first time in Hamburg, closed with more than positive results. Between meetings and in-depth discussions that are shaping the evolution of the naval industry

Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo Europe brought the calendar of events dedicated to cruise ship interiors to a close in style, confirming its status as a strategic hub for networking and culture in the sector. Held for the first time in Hamburg, the event embraced the festive atmosphere of the city as it prepares for Christmas.

Attendance was high, both in terms of visitors and exhibitors, confirming continental Europe’s role as the heart of the European cruise market. Over 300 suppliers, outfitters and design studios took part in the event as exhibitors, including around 100 first-time participants. Among them were Zenko HF Interiors, Marine Interiors (Fincantieri), Crivellari Divani & Poltrone, Harmony Marine Solutions, Ekornes, Tuuci, Pooky, MEYER Re and many others.

The exhibitors had the opportunity to exchange ideas during the usual “Pitch and Pint”, a dynamic and informal format in which new participants at the fair presented their businesses through a one-minute pitch in front of a jury composed of illustrious names in the sector. The winner was Panomax Cruises & Yachts.

Numerous companies also stood out in the exhibition area. Oceancircle, which specialises in sustainable materials, organised a workshop at its stand for the creation of bracelets using recovered ocean waste, actively involving the public and raising awareness of environmental issues. SD Marine Interiors, on the other hand, awarded the two winners of its repair competition, offering visiting buyers a concrete demonstration of the rigorous operating standards required of the fitting-out industry.

The heart of the event remains the meeting between professionals. Over a thousand appointments were organised as part of the “speed networking” sessions to bring suppliers and buyers together, alongside the “peer-to-peer networking” event, offered for the second consecutive year, which promotes relationships between brands and the exchange of knowledge and inspiration.

The programme of content was integrated directly into the exhibitors’ stands – including Oceancircle, Herculan, CITA Design Studio, Harmony Marine Solutions, Robos Contract Furniture and LIND DNA – while a particular highlight was the first CSI round table dedicated to shipyards. With speakers from Lloyd Werft, Meyer Werft and Meyer, the debate addressed the topics of innovation and progress in cruise ship construction.

Last but not least, the Sustainable Design Summit brought together over 130 participants to discuss experiences in the sector. The session, led by Mike Lambourn, Design Lead at PriestmanGoode, and Zoe Li, Senior Sustainability Manager at Archer Hotel Capital B.V., explored the role of ESG objectives in workflows, the main challenges in sustainability processes and prospects for future development.
