Suspended eclecticism: sea, art and colour

Nori Studio blends design and art in a dialogue that spans residential spaces and installations. From the eclecticism of Casa NM in Sestri Levante, where the sea meets colour, to Giacomo Zornetta’s exhibition Californian Crawl in Milan: a journey through shared creativity and suspended atmospheres

Between sea, materials, and cinematic memories, Nori Studio continues to craft an architecture rooted in relationships. Casa NM in Sestri Levante is a perfect example: an apartment in an early 20th-century historic building, where original stuccoes and high ceilings converse with a bold, contemporary taste.

The client, a Milanese lady with an eclectic personality and a love for the sea, requested a space that spoke of her identity: every choice – from the textured grey resin floors to the yellow Memphis wood details – becomes a gesture of style, a story of character.

At the heart of the living area, a B&B Italia sofa becomes a convivial hub, while the lighting, carefully balanced between archival pieces and contemporary design fixtures, modulates the atmosphere and highlights the volumes. The home is brought to life by an artistic intervention by Giacomo Zornetta: a wall-pool populated by floating bodies, bringing lightness and depth in perfect harmony with the marine theme.

Meanwhile, in the Milan studio, Zornetta once again transforms Nori Studio’s vision into a shared experience. In Californian Crawl, the artist captures the suspended time of a decadent American dream: pools, manicured lawns, warm colours, and cinematic memories. Photographs, film screenshots, and youthful sketches are layered onto canvases and wooden surfaces using oil, acrylic, and mixed media. Nori Studio contributes with walnut chairs inspired by American minimalism, which the artist transforms into three-dimensional canvases.

In both projects – the home and the exhibition – the same philosophy emerges: designing is not just about constructing spaces but about weaving relationships. Every element, from furniture to artwork, engages with those who observe and inhabit it. The result is a creative ecosystem where design, architecture, and art collide in unexpected ways, evoking emotions, telling stories, and freezing time. From the Mediterranean eclecticism of Sestri Levante to the suspended horizon of Californian Crawl, Nori Studio demonstrates how community and imagination can transform any space into a place of connection.
