Outdoor design charms Sydney

B&B Italia has opened its first store entirely dedicated to outdoor furnishings in Sydney, a unique "design destination" created in partnership with Space Furniture for high-end furniture

Australia, with its ideal climate and a lifestyle deeply connected to outdoor spaces, represents a market of growing interest for high-quality outdoor furniture. The demand for ‘en plein air’ living solutions is steadily increasing, as evidenced, for instance, by the dynamic outdoor furniture e-commerce sector, which is projected to reach US$339.8 million in 2025, reflecting an estimated annual growth of 7%. In this vibrant context, B&B Italia, a leading Italian group in high-end design furniture, marks a significant step by inaugurating its first store entirely dedicated to its outdoor collection in Sydney, thereby solidifying its presence in one of the most promising markets in the Asia-Pacific region.

The showroom, a result of the long-standing and consolidated partnership with Space Furniture – a benchmark in design retail in Southeast Asia for over 30 years – opened its doors on July 7, 2025. Located in the strategic area of Surry Hills, a rapidly evolving residential district renowned for its refined cultural scene, the store aims to be a unique “design destination.” Spanning a total area of 450 sqm and designed by B&B Italia’s in-house interior design team, the space showcases the extensive range of B&B Italia Outdoor furnishings, including true icons of outdoor living.

Demetrio Apolloni, CEO of B&B Italia Group, emphasizes the importance of this division: “Outdoor represents an increasingly significant segment of the industry, whose strong potential B&B Italia, with its pioneering vision, had already sensed. Although the B&B Italia Outdoor collection as we know it today was launched in 2007, I like to recall that the company had already experimented in this sector in the 1970s, creating ‘La Compagnia delle Filippine‘ with Afra and Tobia Scarpa, a division dedicated specifically to outdoor furniture.”

Apolloni adds: “Today, our offerings embody our industrial know-how, research, technological innovation, comfort, and ergonomics, in addition to the creativity of our designers. We chose to open in Sydney, empowered by our collaboration with Space Furniture and the splendid setting of Surry Hills, because it is one of the most vibrant hubs in Asia-Pacific – one of our key target markets – and because it represents a culturally vibrant and refined city where a dynamic lifestyle perfectly aligns with our outdoor proposals.”

The Sydney opening represents a new cornerstone in B&B Italia’s distribution plan, as the company continues its global retail expansion, boasting a presence in 80 countries and over 800 stores worldwide.
