SpazioMILANI: a place for revolutionary outdoor scenarios

Milani, with the collaboration of the studio Basaglia + Rota Nodari, opens the way for new product types that expand the company’s potential

Versatility, environmental focus, personalization, personality, high performance and durability: these are the strong points of SpazioMILANI, a project implemented by Milani with artistic direction by the studio Basaglia + Rota Nodari. This collaboration has led to a new catalogue in constant evolution, featuring indoor and outdoor furnishings in recyclable metal. A true revolution for this Veneto-based company specialized in office and contract seating for nearly 50 years.

“We have a long history, driven by the attempt to intercept the challenges of an evolving world,” says Nicoletta Milani, CEO of the firm. “SpazioMILANI is a new expression of this attitude and the desire to grow as an ideal partner in design projects of high value. To create spaces in which to spend quality time is a mission we began many years ago, in the office and elsewhere.”

SpazioMILANI is organized as a place for design and experimentation: this inevitably leads to a new collection. INFINITO, TITANO, LUNAPIENA AND CASTORE are stools, seating, sofas, table lamps, based on a certain way of understanding habitation in relation to factors of use.

“The objects in the SpazioMILANI collection have been created to get beyond the indoor-outdoor dichotomy, moving towards a broader, hybrid concept of space,” Basaglia + Rota Nodari explain. “These are products designed to be ethereal and essential, also to generate dialogue with spaces with a strong personality.”

What are the characteristics of contract furnishings with respect to a domestic setting?
“In our opinion, things are moving towards a concept of the home as a commodity, no longer as a private asset, and as a service rather than personal property, in a path similar to what has already happened in the office sector, with the advent of coworking. In this sense, the world of the home is already becoming part of the contract sector. The products of SpazioMILANI have been formulated with this vision: they have the looks, comfort and personality of home furnishings, but the functional quality, personalization, practicality and performance of a contract collection.”

How do these new offerings respond to the needs of interior designers?
“Interior designers are our main counterparts: our work as designers is to offer tools that are functional and easily interpreted inside their projects. This is why personalization is an indispensable characteristic for us. The SpazioMILANI collection is emblematic in this sense: besides being complete, it offers variants that can be interpreted with fabrics and colors in countless combinations. We like to think that our objects can become almost unrecognizable inside different spaces; when this happens, it means we have achieved our goal: to allow interior designers to express their own personality through the objects we have designed.”

What are the strong points of the collection at the service of interior creativity, and what types of projects does it address?
“Versatility is an intrinsic characteristic of SpazioMILANI. The LUNAPIENA lamp, the INFINITO seating, the CASTORE tables and the TITANO sofa all have a strong personality, but they have been created for insertion in a range of different projects: indoor and outdoor, classic and contemporary, colorful and minimal.”
