RAK Ceramics: design innovation in ceramics

Technology and aesthetic research meet in the new collections presented by the company at Cersaie 2024

RAK Ceramics is one of the world’s leading ceramics brands, specialized in floors and facings in porcelain stoneware, tableware, sanitary fixtures and faucets. Based in the United Arab Emirates, with as many as 23 production plants (United Arab Emirates, India, Bangladesh and Europe) and annual sales of about 1 billion (US dollars), the company conducts research in which aesthetics and technology meet, generating lively design driven by a precise vision.

The cornerstone of this approach are innovation and sustainability: “The company continues to invest in advanced technologies, innovative processes, digital transformation and sustainable materials,” says Abdallah Massaad, CEO of RAK Ceramics. “We utilize production processes that are increasingly efficient in terms of energy, implementing a closed-circuit production system in which 100% of waste water is recovered and purified, while a sizeable portion of waste materials is recycled and reinserted in the production cycle.”

“In this context,” Massaad continues, “last year at Ras Al Khaimah we opened the first Smart Factory, a facility that combines advanced automation systems with the Internet of Things (IoT) to optimize the production of tiles, reducing scrap and improving the quality of products, thus responding to the constantly evolving needs of clients. At Cersaie in Bologna we are presenting – as happens every year – the results of our commitment to research and innovation. Design innovation, but as part of a growth plan developed through investments in production capacity and processes.”

At this edition of Cersaie, RAK Ceramics presents collections conceived in terms of coordination, encouraging designers to take a Mix and Match approach: different materials to combine in various ways, focusing on creativity. The finishes and colors are developed inside the firm, through ongoing research: “The RAK Ceramics Innotech Lab represents the core of the company’s R+D efforts,” says Leonardo De Muro, Corporate Vice-President of RAK Ceramics. “Thanks to the constant commitment of our team in the creation of design collections and innovative products, we continue to push beyond the limits of the possible, relying on avant-garde factories and technologies of the latest generation.” This encounter between technology and creativity forms the basis of the collections exhibited in Bologna, which share a rigorous aesthetic matrix that enables them to offer designers maximum creative freedom.

The Flake Stone collection stems from the FlakeSet technology, which makes it possible to directly embed flakes in the ceramic slabs, with uniform distribution. The result is an ideal material for worktops and tiles with invisible borders: the effect is perfectly natural, as in mineral slabs. The collection thus sets a new aesthetic standard.

In the claddings of the Sapien Wood collection, the grain and colors of wood are recreated thanks to an advanced digital technology that enables production of tiles with very high definition, featuring relief graphics and materic structures on smooth or textured surfaces. The design is developed on a visual and tactile level, in a perfect relationship of correspondence.Marble, stone and concrete join forces in a new composite concept of great visual impact.

The surfaces of the Grey Antique collection suggest the natural beauty of geological formations, and have been developed for facings, counters and floors. They combine a striking image with high performance, also making them ideal for high-traffic areas.

RAK-Des, the collection of sanitary ware launched in 2019 as a tribute to the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus, referencing the linear precision of its style, has evolved to offer new hues: Matte Black, Matte Gray, Matte Cappuccino, Matte Greige and Matte White. A range of colors that fits perfectly into a sophisticated contemporary lifestyle. And which, together with all the other innovations, confirms RAK Ceramics’ positioning as a Lifestyle Solution Provider.
