The Park Hyatt Milan, the luxurious five-star hotel a stone’s throw from the Duomo and with direct access to the Vittorio Emanuele II Gallery, has just celebrated its first twenty years. A location that “allows guests to live in a shell, in the center of the city, but protected from the outside world”, explains architect Capriotti, who already designed the cocktail bar and fine dining restaurant inside the hotel.
Now, he is also the creator of the aesthetic and functional redevelopment of the spaces, which sees the creation of new rooms of different categories and sizes. These include the Solferino and Fiori Chiari suites and the three Signature Suites – Brera, Montenapoleone, and Duomo. The latter two are located on the sixth floor and, thanks to their terraces, open directly onto the sky in line with the other roofs of the city.
“A glimpse of blue – continues the architect – which in Milan has unique chromatic variations, from gray cerulean to amber red, and which reminded me of a passage from The Betrothed”. The visual story of Flaviano Capriotti Architetti unfolds between history, design, literature, and poetry. It incorporates the legacy of the post-war Masters and traditional materials, authentically interpreting the Milanese spirit, and underlining the hotel’s deep connection with the history and culture of the city.
The result is a whispered, discreet, and timeless luxury that pervades the new spaces together with careful attention to light. The three Signature Suites best express that idea of bourgeois modernity, sober and refined, made of quality and functionality. Although distributed over different sizes, they show airy spaces in which the walls are interspersed with pearl gray silk wallpaper – a tribute to the ancient processing of the fabric – and boiserie in blond national walnut in its natural color.
The solid brushed dark oak wood also traces the various rooms, alternating with the Verde Alpi marble. An ideal background for the furnishings, mostly designed by the architect, mixed with pieces of historical design signed by Albini, Caccia Dominioni, Mangiarotti, Ponti, Gardella, Mari. Neutral and soft nuances dominate and a recurring petrol green, occasionally interrupted by touches of yellow and orange. “A reference to the veins of the sky at dawn and dusk”.
