The light in Bologna

I-DEA Luce Architettura

Over 3500 lighting fixtures replaced, 680 new light points installed, four months of detection and analysis differentiated for type of architecture, location, use, history and maintenance, and one entire year of implementation in 2023: these are just some of the numbers of the project of technical lighting revitalization of the historical center of Bologna, conducted by I-DEA Luce Architettura, helmed by the architect Lorenza Golinelli and the engineer Alberto Ricci Petitoni, specializing for over 15 years in lighting design for cities, art locations, monuments and public spaces.

Commissioned by the Municipality of Bologna, developed in coordination with the Office of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, and funded thanks to the national operative program “Città Metropolitane 2014-2020,” the project has concentrated on the lighting of 40 monumental sites, 16 km of porticos, listed as World Heritage by UNESCO, the 10 gates of the historical walled city, and several green zones, with the aim of functional energy and aesthetic efficiency in the historical center, leading to savings of 77% in terms of energy, equal to 387 tons of CO2 per year.
