The contemporary and multifunctional design of Giuseppe Arezzi

A design approach inspired by the local territory, interpreted through furniture, objects, and installations in an authentic way, for an international audience

With an essential language characterized by references to his territory of origin, Sicily, Giuseppe Arezzi is a designer who creates products and spaces aimed at transformability and multifunctionality. Two of his furniture pieces are already part of important collections: Binomio for the permanent “Design and Decorative Arts” collection of the CNAP Centre National des Arts Plastiques in Paris and Manic# for the Vitra Design Museum collection.

Among the latest novelties presented this year by Giuseppe Arezzi Design Studio are two proposals with different scales and aesthetics, dedicated to the night environment and linked by the designer’s formal cleanliness. Brando is the camp bed born from the collaboration with the historic company Campeggi, while Velario is the four-poster bed designed for the brand Lispi, specializing in the artisan processing of wrought iron.

Both unveiled at the fair during Milan Design Week 2024, Brando is characterized by its accordion system that gives the product extreme flexibility. Once closed, the bed becomes a padded bench thanks to the addition of a soft reclining cushion.

Velario, which takes its name from the coverings used by the Romans in amphitheaters, is a contemporary four-poster bed: a linen curtain is held taut by the linear and rigorous structure that is enriched by its materiality, wrought iron left exposed. A bed that brings the aesthetics and charm of outdoor living to indoor environments.

The designer’s most recent project is the CAMPO installation at the Human Forest/Palazzo Micchichè space in Favara. The work was created together with the Made in Italy company Nerosicilia – a leader in the production and processing of natural and technical surfaces – for the first edition of the transdisciplinary Quadrennial dedicated to Sicily and organized by Farm Cultural Park – “We Have Everything, We Lack the Rest”.

From July 27th to August 31st it will be possible to find some of Giuseppe Arezzi’s works in Ragusa Ibla in Corso XXV Aprile, 56, at L’ARRIVO DELLA NOTTE, the fourth exhibition of the artistic project started by Margherita Ratti (It’s Great Design) in 2021. Here the designer will exhibit the object-souvenir Carruba (2021) and the new project Barlume, two hanging lamps created from iron structures to which transparent colored methacrylate trapezoids are fixed, echoing the large lanterns that decorated the entrances of buildings.
