Miart 2024: beyond the boundaries of art

From April 12 to 14, 2024, Milan transforms into an open-air stage for Miart, the international fair of modern and contemporary art. This year with a particular focus on evolution and innovation, guided by the artistic direction of Nicola Ricciardi

This year, this vision finds a surprising incarnation under the title “no time no space”. The theme borrows the words from Franco Battiato’s famous song and marks a step towards the unknown, towards new artistic horizons. The variety of pieces on display is remarkable, with works from 178 galleries from 28 countries. Alongside the consolidated Established and Emerging sections, two new features this year, the Portal and Timescape sections, promise a journey through time and space through art. The fair then goes beyond merely proposing works of art: through the miartalks, it transforms into a real idea lab. Eminent figures from the artistic, musical, and design scene will converge in a dense calendar of meetings and debates, acting as catalysts for fruitful dialogue.

Emblematic is the site-specific work by American artist Jenna Bliss, commissioned by MSGM for the fair’s entrance, evoking the past and questioning the present thanks to the versatility of the videos. The Milan Art Week, a city-wide event that involves various art spaces and places, consolidates Miart’s connection with the city. The fair also opens up to two unconventional places, a cinema and an abandoned office, as additional portals through which to explore the various facets of the city. In this context, Careof, the Milan production center specialized in time-based media, proposes “Comete. Avanguardie di un altro sistema solare”, a program of art projections at the Anteo Palazzo del Cinema.

Finally, miart 2024 is a visionary bridge that connects not only the artistic past and future but also art and design, as evidenced by the immersive audiovisual installation created by EX and proposed in Piazza Gae Aulenti from the unprecedented collaboration with Fuorisalone.it which will make a series of thematic paths available online. Miart’s involvement in the upcoming Milan Design Week (April 15-21) completes the picture, creating a synergistic bridge between art and design.
