Lake Como Design Festival: lightness

In September comes the sixth edition of the event. Which has already (since 31 March) activated an open call for emerging designers, to select the participants

Lake Como Design Festival continues its voyage and announces the sixth edition, from 14 to 22 September 2024, in the city of Como and around its lake. “Lightness” is the theme of this new gathering, accompanying visitors on a distributed itinerary to discover exhibitions and site-specific installations that explore the theme from various viewpoints.

“This year’s festival will have some returning features and many new developments at the same time,” says Lorenzo Butti, creator and artistic director of the event. “The growing enthusiasm has permitted us to work on increasingly ambitious projects, ranging through different disciplines and locations. In this outlook, we see the theme of lightness as a modus operandi: the ability to step back from things to reach a deeper understanding.”

Among the new aspects, there is the very interesting “Kilometer of Knowledge,” in collaboration with Associazione Villa del Grumello and Fondazione Antonio Ratti: in 15 hectares of age-old parks, several historic villas facing the lake – including Villa Grumello – will host projects by emerging designers selected by Giovanna Massoni.

Works can be submitted for the open call open to independent designers and artists until 31 March 2024. To illustrate the aims of this edition, three thematic clusters have been created: “Subtracting weight” (materials, workmanship and structures that determine the lightness of objects); “Agile objects” (on transformable, foldable, transportable, multifunctional and adaptable items); and “Spaces of light” (where the lamp as object is not the protagonist, but instead the effects of the light it emits). To take part in the selection, projects should be submitted with a brief description at [email protected]
