The design culture of Agapecasa

The brand is a timeless tribute to Angelo Mangiarotti, between narration and the reissuing of iconic creations

Angelo Mangiarotti

A precious treasure trove of inventions and traditions, Agapecasa is also much more. The brand was born in 2009, based on the desire to pay tribute to the long-term relationship between Agape and Angelo Mangiarotti, through a line set aside for the reissue of original pieces by one of the greatest masters of Italian architecture and design of the postwar era. A project that relies on the creative direction of Camilla Benedini and close collaboration with the founders, part of the board of advisors of Fondazione Mangiarotti.

To renew with dedication and respect, to celebrate ingenuity and creativity, allowing each piece to become the historical record of a precise moment, but also a bridge across epochs. The journey proposed by Agapecasa has precisely this spirit, presenting a collection of original furnishings by the famous designer in a new version, in harmony with Fondazione Mangiarotti.

The concept takes the form of two approaches that make room for a new way of thinking about design, not just through the production of iconic pieces, but also through the production of exhibitions about the man and his works, seen as an interpretation of our everyday world. In terms of production, there are exemplary items like the Club 44 collection of tables, and the expansion of the Cavalletto furniture series.

The Club 44 table, initially created for the cultural center of the same name at La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland, becomes part of the production with its four forms – square, elliptical, round and rectangular – in combinations of different materials. The Cavalletto furniture system, on the other hand, makes modularity and interlocking its distinctive features, and has now expanded its potential with new elements rediscovered in the Mangiarotti archives, such as the small square table, the daybed and the modules for doors and drawers.

Along with the aspect of production, there is the complementary focus on narrative, as an expedient of education and culture. This is the perspective behind the projects Alfabeto Mangiarotti, a feature-length film by the director Davide Maffei that narrates Angelo Mangiarotti in his multiple guises as architect, designer and sculptor; the exhibition at Triennale Milano titled “Angelo Mangiarotti: when structures take shape“;  and, finally, the installation “Casa Mangiarotti by Agape & Agapecasa,” presented during the fifth edition of EDIT CULT Naples, to sum up the dialogue between material, form, technology and thought.
