“Walking around downtown Miami and the surrounding neighborhoods of Wynwood and Brickell, we were reminded that art and inspiration are truly everywhere. This essence of creativity and wonder is something we wanted the guests to feel from the moment they arrive.” Alecia Enriquez, senior designer with HBA San Francisco, clearly describes the approach taken for the redesign of the interiors of the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay, transforming its spaces with a narrative driven by emotions. Art, architecture and a palette of local colors – those of the Art Deco buildings, but also of the legendary sunrises and sunsets – are the materials with which the studio has shaped the new environment. Drawing on that distinctive, unique, joyful character, inevitably influenced by Cuba and the Latino melting pot.
A new identity in connection with the location and its history, developed and filtered through a boutique lifestyle sensibility. In the hall, the food & beverage spaces, the guestrooms (607 all told), the corridors, furnishings and materials by artisans from around the world, as well as local sources, mingle in shades of orange, coral, blue and aqua green.
The ample heights allow natural light to enter, and the guests can explore the space, softened by curves and alcoves that bring balance, warmth and intimacy. Like those of the undulated panel in natural wood, placed over the reception counter, which captures the gaze and breaks up the white dominant of the floors, ceilings and columns.
The effect is heightened by the juxtaposition of a wall of tiles with an intricate motif, a reminder of the turquoise waters of Miami, and by a series of custom carpets bordering the lounge areas, enhanced by accent lighting.
The studio HBA San Francisco has also created a new concept for the restaurant and bar facilities, reconfiguring the indoor-outdoor connection and offering a fine view of the bay. The result is the Miami M Club, which shifts the lively atmosphere to the seafront, with touches of pastel colors, blue tiles, shades of aquamarine.
A relaxing but also vibrant place, featuring an oversized lampshade suspended from the ceiling to mark the entrance. Accents of black metal are joined by the natural stone of the tabletops. Even the most private spaces – the guestrooms and suites – transmit a Miami atmosphere, with a mural behind the headboards of the beds, and ocean motifs for the carpets.
