New developments from LaCividina, the Friuli-based maker of upholstered furnishings, on view during the Salone del Mobile. Starting with the company’s first showroom, which opens its doors precisely for Milano Design Week in the splendid spaces of Palazzo Borromeo d’Adda, at Via Manzoni 41 in Milan. The firm’s first permanent display space has an area of about 250 square meters, in which over 20 iconic collections and original pieces reveal a natural sequence of “non-rooms” envisioned by the architect Luca Botto, art director of the brand, to be transformed depending on habitational needs. Visitors are guided by a sophisticated lighting system, made even more effective and immersive by touchscreens that narrate the historic creations of the brand while optimizing the phases of consulting and design services. The interior design choices overseen by Studio Salaris take their cue from the historic location: from the Nicosia green of the resin to the plasters, the hemp oak wooden floors to the existing marble features.

For the occasion, LaCividina presents a reissue of Osaka, the sofa designed by Pierre Paulin in 1967, which the company helmed by Fulvio Bulfoni recreated in 2013: in an event organized for the evening of 19 April (by invitation only, ed), Osaka will wear the special Arda fabric by Kvadrat, a covering inspired by the project “Design by Nature” of Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren, of the Swedish firm Front, revealing unexpected shadings and characteristics of respect for the environment. Along with this opening, which also marks a cultural passage for the brand, LaCividina presents two absolutely new developments: the Dorothea seating component system by Andrea Steidl and the Agetti chair by Garcia Cumini.

Dorothea, with its planar asymmetrical seat, has been inspired by the Lithops, the succulent plant of “living stones”; the sculptural back, the support element of the system, is slimmer in the central part and widens at the extremities. The system contains nine modules: five seats and four backs of different sizes. The ample volumes of the seat are balanced by the support system: a platform recessed slightly from the perimeter of the furniture permits it to visually “float” inside the host space. The same impression returns in the design of the desk built into the outer profile of the seat. Innovative in terms of design, Dorothea is also traditional in terms of the craftsmanship of LaCividina, capable of generating orderly, strong softness, ideal for both contract and residential applications.
Clear and understated, the Agetti family has restrained, sculptural volumes, for effective insertion in both residential and commercial contexts. Slim shapes and vivid stitching are accompanied by the “controlled” softness of the upholstery, in various armchair and sofa versions. With Agetti LaCividina takes its manufacturing ability, technological excellence and fine craftsmanship to the highest levels: the stitches run perfectly straight along the lines, the reinforced elastic belting is also inserted in the back for greater comfort, while the fabrics become protagonists, matched with a solid beech structure that follows the rules of the Friuli style of upholstered furnishings.

The back – a particular feature, striking due to its 70° angle – is connected to the seat by means of a system of metal reinforcements, granting the pieces stability and clarity of details. The armrests extend the conceptual approach of Agetti, interrupting to create a moment of separation and a naturally emptied space.
