EDIT Napoli: the design of the future is slow

Territorial identity and sustainability are the foundations of ‘fair’ design, the leitmotif of a ‘fair’ that enlivens Naples in October

Let’s be fair” is the fil rouge of the fourth edition of EDIT Napoli, the fair on signature design held from 7 to 9 October in the capital of Campania, at the complex of San Domenico Maggiore.

The title this year plays with the term ‘fair’ and its double meaning in English, underscoring EDIT’s aim of spreading the word about equitable, honest, beautiful design, represented by objects whose replicability is mixed with a spirit of craftsmanship. Pieces generated by a slow creative process, in dialogue with the traditions and rhythms of the territory, favoring quality over quantity.

“We are an independent fair,” says Emilia Petruccelli, founder of the event together with Domitilla Dardi, “which in these four years has had to cope with a complex situation, finding a path and a business milieu thanks to courageous choices, a well-defined community of designers who support us, and a territory – Campania – that permits us to create value with contents and relationships of international interest.”

The range of Italian and international participants includes a segment under 30 as well as companies in business for less than three years so far. There are also special projects, like the café by the designer Astrid Luglio in collaboration with the Feudi di San Gregorio wine brand, and an exhibition set up at the entrance to the fair by the Design Lab of the community of San Patrignano, together with the artist Agostino Iacurci.

Visitors can also discover the initiatives of EDIT Cult, bringing the audience to the most evocative destinations in Naples: the church of SS. Filippo e Giacomo hosts Divinazione, a tapestry created by the designer Allegra Hicks, who works in London and Naples, while Fondazione Made in Cloister presents the exhibition Parallels, a body of works by seven Dutch designers with a focus on sustainable materials.

EDIT Napoli has also organized a prize: it will be assigned to the best projects by an exceptional jury composed, among others, of the architect and designer Patricia Urquiola.
