Paris Design Week: the City of Lights becomes a stage for creativity

From September 8 to 17, parallel to Maison&Objet, the French capital is putting on more than 400 events with international projects

Emerging and established talents, exhibitions, talks, meetings with designers, vernissages, and installations are happening in Paris from September 8 to 17. Paris Design Week, parallel to Maison&Objet, spotlights the best of international design, with events spread throughout the city. “In&Out M&O” happens at more than 400 locations, giving industry professionals, design connoisseurs, and the merely curious chances to socialize and interact with designers.

So… the journey begins at the fair, enjoying along the way gourmet food from Gault&Millau, this edition’s partner. The leitmotif of the event is “Meta Sensible,” i.e. the metaverse, a theme that recurs in exhibitions and installations in which digital and real worlds are combined. The topic is also explored by events in the city: by the young designers in the Paris Design Week Factory, a creative hub hosted by two galleries in the Marais, and by the Elle Décoration exhibition, organized for the 35th anniversary of its foundation, hosting 15 international designers, stylists and interior designers who collaborate with digital or 3D artists to produce NFTs.

Spotlight on students: at the Académie du Climat, the Design for a Wild World is a reference to Victor Papanek‘s pioneering Design for the Real World and its social and environmental content. The Campus des Métiers d’Art & Design is presenting some of the best projects about the connection between the real and virtual worlds by students from its eight design colleges and ten other technical schools in Paris.

The La Louisiane hotel is hosting the second Bienvenue Design event with about twenty rooms where galleries, designers and design studios will give their own interpretation of historical or contemporary design. The designer and architect Harry Nuriev is the guest of honor who, with his Crosby Studio, will create a virtual version of one of the hotel’s rooms.

The Uchronia collective with Antoine Billore is presenting an exhibition of ceramic fish and shells to draw attention to the state of our seas. Many vintage pieces and contemporary creations by Uchronia will be in the background.

Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature

For those who love monumental Paris, the Hôtel de Sully will host an installation by the interior designer Isabelle Stanislas, and several noble palaces in the Marais will be the backdrop to Design sur Cours, in collaboration with Les Ateliers de Paris.

International design will be also on the scene at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature (Laurel Parker and Paul Chamard, former artists-in-residence at Villa Kujoyama in Japan, with the exhibition Inside Outside), at the Atelier Nérlandais (Maison&Objet will honor six Dutch designers and craft artists as part of its Rising Talent Awards), at the Joseph Minimes Gallery (with designer Wieki Somers’ Métamorphose exhibition), and at the Swedish Institute (with projects by architect Vilhelm Lauritzen and iconic design pieces by Carl Hansen & Søn).

And that’s just a small taste… to be joined by countless other exciting events around Paris’s arrondissements!
