Walls as micro-works of architecture

Bookcases, closets, partition systems and accessorized walls enhance and transform space, in tune with the infinite mutations of the contemporary world

Designers think about the idea of the wall, and manage to enrich it with countless meanings. No longer a matter of mere separation, the wall becomes a true micro-work of architecture with many functions: a cabinet or a bookshelf, with lighting or without, ready to organize and transform spaces depending on necessities.

The systems by Porro define the architecture of space with lightness, reflecting the desires of its inhabitants. Bordered by glass surfaces, the Boutique Mast lateral wardrobes designed by Piero Lissoni + CRS Porro are like an elegant graphic framework featuring slim circular posts in metal, an iron finish on which to place cantilevered shelves in white cherry.

To create Nicandro for Faram 1957 Egidio Panzera has overturned the traditional concept of the fixed wall, producing a system where individual sections are placed next to each other. The various sections, which can be easily added or removed, are designed to contain glass but also wooden panels, fabrics, grilles and metal screens, giving rise to chromatic and material stratifications. Thanks to the section with three tracks, the system can be customized with sliding bookshelves, cabinets, slates, sound-absorbing panels, drapes, monitors and grids on which to position plants and flowers.

The N.O.W. accessorized partition by Lago (designed by Daniele Lago) becomes extremely functional thanks to a large storage volume with a patented opening, which becomes light and dynamic due to its suspension and the rhythm of the glass panels, in different sizes and ready for individual personalization. N.O.W. can contain elegant doors in bronze-tone transparent glass, enhanced by a lighting system, creating a dialogue between display and storage. A modular décor element that adapts to any space and any requirements.

Andrea Steidl has designed Carvel for RES Italia, a boiserie developed with a modular aesthetic, in which wood and its grain fill spaces with details designed by nature. This inspiration has generated paneling like a bulkhead or a deck on a boat, where the planks trigger visual impact rich in natural character and detailing. Wood and its image form a narrative along the walls, transforming from paneling to doors or living area solutions that make the play of wood grain become the protagonist of the compositions.

For Salone del Mobile 2022, Acerbis presents an updated version of the Life system designed by Roberto Monsani in the 1970s, introducing new proportions and finishes, using vanishing hinges of the latest generation and an LED lighting system for low consumption. The current Life system is composed of a sequence of storage cubes measuring 64 cm, in matte white, which can be infinitely combined to offer the possibility of complete space management freedom. The doors come in seven different lacquer finishes of the Remasters collection: bordeaux, pink, dark green, mustard yellow, brick red, navy blue. The results are wall compositions where full parts alternate with empty zones, while the inserted lights bring out the contrast between volumes, for a vivid architectural character.

Novamobili presents Stave, a wardrobe with a forceful personality that attracts attention thanks to two elements: the slatted door and the curved modules. The vertical staves of the panels are the focal point of this wardrobe, available in different finishes including oak veneer (gray, pale, honey, earth), canaletto walnut, matte and oxidized lacquer. Stave, in its various configurations, is ideal to make best use of available space, positioned against the wall or utilized as a divider between two zones.

Jean Nouvel has designed Graduate for Molteni&C as a suspended bookcase, based on a single shelf anchored to the wall or ceiling. From this fixed element, steel tie-rods support shelves in wood and aluminium that seem to float lightly in a volume of air. The metal posts have graduated notches for free positioning of the shelves, supported by invisible joints.

Giuseppe Bavuso has created Opus for Rimadesio, a modular shelving system entirely in extruded aluminium, based on the free composition of the square and rectangle as modular figures. Opus furnishes domestic or professional spaces with great personality, and can be equipped with storage units with drawers or flap doors. The system also comes with a structure in aluminium and backs in Litech, a ceramic material developed exclusively for Rimadesio, obtained through high-temperature fusion of very pure minerals.

Eidos Pro is the new line from Newform Ufficio designed to adapt to new needs in offices in a versatile, flexible way. Based on the idea of agile work and the concept of the smart office, Eidos Pro fulfills the need for functional quality and sturdiness, ensuring effective solutions that also permit hybrid working. The optimization of spaces is guaranteed by the bookshelf system of the collection, which with its light, elegant structure creates no obstacles to visibility and promotes spatial organization, while respecting needs of privacy, safety and security.
