Perrier-Jouët and mischer’traxler: an installation about nature

Not just a sensory experience, but also an investigation of the importance of biodiversity: Curiosity Cloud is a new episode of the collaboration between Perrier-Jouët and mischer'traxler, the Austrian creative duo

Design Week becomes a chance to talk about nature, its fragility and vulnerability, and how it can become an important source of inspiration. The Maison de Champagne Perrier-Jouët – founded in 1811 by Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose Adélaide Jouët, a couple who shared a love of nature and a passion for art, brings Curiosity Cloud to Milan, an installation created with the Austrian design studio mischer’traxler, founded by the artists Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler.

The work features blown glass light bulbs suspended from a structure resembling a metal tree. A closer look reveals the fact that each bulb contains a handmade replica of an insect. It is like being inside a chamber of wonders, because from a distance the insects inside are peaceful and still – only one or two seem to come to life, emitting alternating soft and bright light. As the visitor approaches, looking up, the insects start to move inside their glass containers, and their wings create a true soundscape. An interactive installation that attracts and amazes the viewer, stemming from a shared passion for nature.

Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler are convinced that every natural element, no matter how small or apparently insignificant, has its own reason and purpose for being. Curiosity Cloud, also inspired by Art Nouveau, sets out to shed light (literally and metaphorically) on the complex interdependencies of the ecosystem, not always visible to the naked eye.

This has always been the objective of Perrier-Jouët, after all, dedicated to the preservation of the perfect balance of its terroir. The installation will be on view from 7 to 12 June at Piazza San Marco in Milan, inside the event dOT (design Outdoor Taste).
