Roda: happy design

With the catalogue Outdoor Happiness, Roda presents projects and new solutions to improve life for those who want to surround themselves with responsible beauty, on a human, natural scale. With respect and care, characteristics of a corporate culture that is increasingly sensitive to green imperatives

Nature sets the stage for the new catalogue for 2022 by Roda: Outdoor Happiness. A hospitable, satisfying nature, a solution and comfort for the human spirit, also in the design of the home, unleashing the benefits of conscious wellness based on psycho-physical balance and aesthetic gratification.

Roda, by vocation, makes a constant commitment to the landscape and to the relationship between man and the surrounding environment, investing for some time now in a path and process that become a complete corporate strategy. Sustainability – environmental, but also social and economic in character – is part of the idea of good design itself, and therefore of any project of value.

The settings seen in the 2022 catalogue of the Lombardy-based company are enlivened by collections that go beyond the seasonal cycles of the market, and also beyond the walls of the home: outdoor and indoor contaminate each other with a harmonious language of forms, materials and details, in a spatial and conceptual continuum.

“The perfect sofa for people who enjoy informal outdoor living,” says Rodolfo Dordoni to introduce Mamba. This is perhaps his most ‘irregular’ creation, due to its original design and the evocative, sinuous profiles that remind us of the graceful movement of the snake of the same name. The modules have different forms – linear or pentagonal – and can be freely grouped to generate classic volumes, or to give rise to unexpected lengths. The backs open lightly to avoid being perpendicular to the seats, while the structures rest on only slightly visible cylindrical feet.

The Plein Air collection designed by Michael Anastassiades is entirely conceived for the dining area, not exclusively for outdoor spaces. It comes in an expanded guise, thanks to two new sizes for the tables and an original chair with armrests, granting continuity to the essential, refined style of the collection. Hailing from a Mediterranean culture, the designer points out that “although Plein Air is an outdoor collection, if I suddenly wanted to imagine it inside the house, I would have no trouble doing so.”

Levante, the collection in teak created by Piero Lissoni, introduces several new developments: the new sofa with its ample seat, where the precious wood variety is combined with the nonchalant softness of the cushions; the reclining cot, equipped with a practical optional service table; and the low tables, square and rectangular, that replicate the image of the dining table. From an aesthetic standpoint, this is a collection defined by Lissoni as ‘timeless’ thanks to the use of teak, a material deployed “in an intelligent and hyper-industrial way, which ages well even without much maintenance, as the years and the seasons go by.”

Aspic is a trio of concrete tables designed by Gordon Guillaumier as “a versatile mini-series that can be combined with various seating models in lounges or relaxation areas. The collection has a forceful, material, essential and architectural presence; liquid concrete is poured into industrial molds in the production phase, like making a dessert – hence the name Aspic.” (Gordon Guillaumier)
