In recent years the world of interior architecture has seen a shift from the center of the house towards outdoor spaces. This shift has been caused by new lifestyles, but also by technologies that have generated materials and forms of workmanship offering previously unthinkable levels of performance. The offering of outdoor furnishings has expanded, with increasingly sophisticated solutions. Giorgetti, with over 100 years of cabinetmaking tradition, interprets this macro-trend with Aldìa, the collection designed by Carlo Colombo.
Created to bring refinement and precious quality to gardens, terraces and yachts, Aldìa is a series of chairs, modular sofas, ottomans, large and small tables: a complete system whose technical and aesthetic characteristics make it extremely versatile, perfect for open-air spaces but also for interiors.
In keeping with the company’s DNA, once again in this project the focal point is wood, treated with expertise that combines craftsmanship and technology. For the chair and the sofa of the series, the metal structure (like the base with an elegant pewter lacquer finish) is clad in pantographed birch plywood and then crafted by hand to create an abstract geometric pattern, a game of intersecting lines: it resembles a stylized plaid, but also the grid of streets in a city.
In this way, the material takes on a unique texture: “The wood is so carefully shaped that it becomes irresistible to the touch: you want to constantly caress it, because it offers a marvelous, sensual sensation of softness and sophisticated elegance,” says Carlo Colombo.
The armrests of the sofa are made like the back; those of the chair, on the other hand, are in EVA waterproof polymer, ideal for outdoor use, available in white, sand, dark brown, brick, Bali blue and gray. The modular sofa permits a wide range of configurations; the individual modules can also be used as ottomans.
The Aldìa tables, with their surfaces formed by fragments of natural stone, link back to a timeless image in which past and present mingle. The light structure in pewter-finish coated metal frames the top, available in the palladiana version featuring fragments of walnut travertine embedded in a blend of marble dust and gravel, or in the tuff and limestone variants. In square and rectangular models, the tables are available in four lengths and two widths. They are also available in the indoor version in pewter-finish coated metal and with a marble, ash or back-painted glass top.
