Courmayeur: a city of design, more than ever

Design finds new expressions in an exceptional natural context, thanks to Courmayeur Design Weekend, on view until 10 March

The aim has been achieved: to transform a city known mostly for its impeccable natural beauty into a high-altitude design hub. Over the last two years, Courmayeur has demonstrated another aspect of its personality, close to the world of décor and architecture, with original contaminations and collaborations, during Courmayeur Design Weekend. Credit is due to the architect and professor Paola Silva Coronel, who in collaboration with Courmayeur Mont Blanc has managed to bring design and culture into a context that amplifies their value due to the intrinsic quality of the territory.
The winning formula returns from 10 to 13 March with the second iteration of the program: four days of events, talks, exhibitions and installations, all the way to the historic skiCAD competition, now at its 21st edition.

Courmayeur Design Weekend, Dolonne cabins, “Design at its peak” exhibition

A preview of the lively synergies that have been activated can already be seen from the cabins of the Courmayeur Mont Blanc cableway, which narrate the icons and novelties of the contemporary design panorama in a sort of moving installation.

The physical and conceptual fulcrum of the program will be the “Chalet de Tendence” inside the Courmayeur Sport Center, which together with the Jaguar Land Rover lounge will host exhibitions and conferences.

Here a group of young designers from Val d’Aosta make their own contribution in terms of experimentation and trend forecasting. At the same location, Italian design finds expression in various types of installations: from the creativity of Jannelli&Volpi, whose imaginative wallpapers become part of the décor of the Chalet, to that of Michele Rossi of the studio PARK Associati, who together with Alpi has created the sets for the space used for talks. Finally, there is the vision of the workspaces of the future by Gino Garbellini of Piuarch, in a special installation with the support of Cardex and Herman Miller

From this point, the event spreads out into the entire city, in a distributed exhibition of design objects in the windows of the boutiques of Courmayeur, all the way to the summit of Mont Blanc, and the Skyway where during the days of Design Weekend will present the new décor of the café at Pointe Helbronner, produced by Kartell.

In the middle, a myriad of installations call into play the studio 967Arch, the Tolomeo by Michele De Lucchi for Artemide in XXL format, an extra-large Vanity Fair by Poltrona Frau, and the studio Progetto CMR of Massimo Roj Architects, creators of unusual luminous installations.
