Some owners are not satisfied with just having a latest generation 58-meter vessel and also want a smaller boat, which can support the ‘mother ship.’ These shadow vessels support their mother ships in cruises around the world, carrying all the owner’s toys and tenders. This is the latest trend.

The madness of mega tycoons? Perhaps, but that’s what was wanted by the owner of Phi, the first motor superyacht built by Dutch yard Royal Huisman: a 36-meter yacht, also custom built, in this case by the Turkish yacht builder Alia Yachts. An even crazier detail, in keeping with this owner’s standing, the exterior styling of this second ship is a perfect reflection of the lines of the Phi mothership.

“We looked at design DNA of the mothership Phi, which includes organically curved sheerlines, contrasting black and blue surfaces, and sharp-edged and curved wing stations. As much as we were able to, given the constraints, we applied this DNA to Phi Phantom,” says Cor D Rover, the Dutch designer who designed both ships. The Alia shipyard did an excellent job shaping this aluminum yacht without using filler materials.

The Phantom hull is ultra high performing; designed by the Dutch naval architecture firm Van Oossanen, it falls into the Fast Displacement XL category. The yacht can reach a speed of 21 knots and has a range of 6,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 11 knots, meaning that this 36-meter vessel can handle Atlantic crossings with no problem.

A crane on board moves the many tenders and toys located on the 150 square meters of open deck aft. These include a 12.3-meter motor launch built by Spirit Yachts especially for Phi; there are also small sailing boats, an electric car, and jet skis in addition to those on Phi, electric road and mountain bikes, surfboards and other kinds of boards, and even an inflatable slide.

But there are more than just toys on board. The interior layouts include three crew cabins and a cabin for an extra guest, such as a guide; and there is a kitchen and a dining area for the crew. Put simply, this is a yacht at the complete service of an owner who wants to get the most fun possible from yachting.
