The first André Fu boutique: an ode to Japanese aesthetics

Opening in Hong Kong of the first boutique exclusively for André Fu Living. A space where Japanese culture coexists with the architect’s contemporary vision

The inspiration is typically oriental, with echoes of Japanese aesthetics, while the references are made directly to the local tradition and its architecture. The new André Fu boutique is a tribute to the roots of the brand. The location is no coincidence: “I have chosen my hometown, Hong Kong, as the destination for my very first retail venue – a city that continually inspires my appreciation for the world of design,” says the architect. Pacific Place, the city’s exclusive lifestyle hub, hosts the boutique with its area of 800 sqm and a large front, where a distinctive circular window and thick wooden borders immediately create a captivating visual composition.

Inside, visitors are immersed in Japanese culture. Though the context has been reinterpreted in keeping with the contemporary vision of André Fu, its references are clearly perceptible: from the Ginkaku-ji Zen temple (the “Temple of Shining Mercy”) to the typical dwellings of Kyoto. The atmosphere of this experiential voyage is one of purity and delicacy (aided by the subtle impressions of bamboo alternating with oak columns, and a warm palette of antique brass, turquoise and gray onyx).

This dreamy setting acts as a showcase for the André Fu Living collection and its design philosophy: “I wanted to capture the timeless essence of the collections and immerse the guests in an atmosphere full of warmth and serenity.”
Furnishings, fabrics, lighting and tableware generated by the remarkable flair of André Fu (like the Mid Century Rhythm, Artisan Artistry, Modern Vintage and Art Deco Garden lines) set the rhythm in the space, along with the new Objects collection – creations based on experimentation with materials, presented in a preview at the recent edition of Design Miami/Podium x Shanghai.
