Hydro Tec, the company specialized in naval engineering based in Ovada, in the province of Alessandria, celebrates its first 25 years with the book Heading for the Future, written in the first person by the founder Sergio Cutolo. Anecdotes, adventures, encounters, wagers and stories, accompanied by beautiful photographs, with the sensation of leafing through a family album.

“I was born in Naples,” Sergio Cutolo writes, “so I have a natural attitude of passion for the sea. My family had a house on the peninsula of Sorrento, the last town at its tip, Massa Lubrense; farther on, beyond Punta Campanella, there is the sea, and then Capri with its cliffs, and the Faraglioni. My father bought a gozzo sorrentino with which we would go to have a swim at the various inlets between Marina della Lobra and Punta Campanella, and also beyond, entering the Gulf of Salerno to linger in the magical Bay of Jeranto, at Marina del Cantone, near Positano, Furore and Praiano. Those were unforgettable days on this little boat that had been built in the 1930s as a rowboat, and was later outfitted with a small Farymann  7 CV single-cylinder motor.”

Hydro Tec was founded in 1995 as an engineering company specializing in hydrodynamics, to capitalize on the experience of its founder in the field of speedboats for commercial use and pleasure boating. Over the years the studio has evolved towards a dimension that now covers naval architecture, naval engineering and design. Across a quarter century, the firm has worked on a vast range of yachts of all types and sizes, engineering and designing over 2000 meters of boats, from explorers to megayachts of 80 meters, all the way to the smallest 7-meter tenders.

“Celebrations always make you take stock of the past,” Sergio Cutolo continues, “but the 25th anniversary of Hydro Tec means looking into the future of our firm, always with a strong commitment to innovation.”
