“An actor’s dressing room is a magical, secret place, in which a person enters, and then emerges in character.” The charm and almost holy atmosphere of this space have been interpreted by 17 interior design firms in Milan, asked to take part in the project “Vietato l’ingresso” curated by Giulia Pellegrino and supported by Show Bees and TAM Teatro Arcimboldi Milano.
17 dressing rooms that become places of experimentation, creation, fantasy, in a process of regeneration and redesign of secluded “cabinets of transformation,” where actors, musicians, dancers and singers get ready to take the stage. The project not only brings attention and vitality to the theater – one of the venues that has be hardest hit by the forced closure of recent months – but also fits perfectly into the contemporary spirit that has made the Arcimboldi an iconic location in the city.

Atelierzero, BDGS and Daniela Volpi, Calvi Ceschia Viganò Architetti Associati, DAP Studio, Enrico Scaramellini Architetto, Francesco Rota Architettura, Galante Menichini Architetti, Gio Latis Studio, Lupettatelier, Monica Baio Nicola Quadri, NM Nick Maltese Studio, Paolo Volpato and Caterina Steiner, Park Associati, RGA studio, Studio .Cagnato, SenseLab + Nicolò Gobini and Studio Wok are the firms that have ‘adopted’ the 17 dressing rooms, which have all been updated with a different interpretation and a distinctive character, like the stories that come to life inside them: “Vietato l’ingresso” becomes a gathering place of emotions and new experiences, of related but different sectors – entertainment, architecture and design – to fully support art in the widest sense of the term.
The initiative will be the conclusion of a contest, with public voting (until 27 September, at the site www.vietatolingresso.it), to pick the winning studio, which will be commissioned for the renovation of the “Camerino Muti” dedicated to the famous orchestra conductor Riccardo Muti, the first to perform at the grand opening of the theater.
