Playing with light? It can certainly be done. The world of technical lighting reveals its creativity and its compositional freedom thanks to the invention of flexible systems that easily adapt to any type of space. Light seems to shape itself, wrapping spaces with extraordinary performance.
Artemide, Funivia by Carlotta de Bevilacqua
One case is Artemide with Funivia, designed by Carlotta de Bevilacqua (President and CEO of the company, an inclusive system capable of creating a network of intelligent light. The cable, with a special minimum cross-section but capable of standing up to mechanical tension and thermal stress, is the channel of energy distribution of the system and the load-bearing element to connect the lighting fixtures; attached to the wall, the floor or the ceiling by the mechanical parts, it runs inside them without any need for cutting or interruption: this leads to the creation of horizontal, vertical and sloped lines, in a situation of maximum freedom. The structure can incorporate not only lighting but also spatial partitions, acoustic panels and more.
Axolight, Pivot by Ryosuke Fukusada
Likewise, in Pivot by Axolight the design impact resides precisely “in the infinite stylistic and luminous possibilities that can be created, using a single power point,” says the company’s CEO Giuseppe Scaturro. Based on collaboration with the Japanese designer Ryosuke Fukusada, Pivot is a new linear and modular lighting system mounted on the ceiling or suspended, combining essential looks and excellent functional quality: the result is a decorative lamp for interiors, though it is also extremely technical and architectural in its design.
The inspirations are many – from algebra to basketball to the Japanese hishaku utensil: different impressions converge in a modular project that seems like a set of tubes branching off from the light source. Pivot, in fact, is characterized by three structural parts, joined together: a small cylinder that contains the LED source and a lens, and two rotating rings (with a height of 1.5 cm each) placed one over the other, which thanks to an entrance hole permit interconnection of each individual light source to two tubular metal channels. The resulting geometric forms are infinite, and so are the lighting possibilities.

Technology, dynamism, space and architecture blend perfectly in the Sticks collection designed by Arik Levy in collaboration with Vibia. The “sticks” of aluminium rotate to permit adjustment of the light with precision and freedom: they can connect one wall to another wall, the floor to a wall, a wall to the ceiling, or be suspended from the ceiling, connecting to the space. The bars – in lengths of 1.5, 2 and 3 meters – can be combined and personalized, for a maximum length of 6.5 meters. The resulting light sculptures resemble abstract art installations.
