Nicandro, the wall that becomes light

Faram, with Nicandro designed by Egidio Panzera, incorporates light inside the wall to create spaces with an accent on wellbeing and safety

It all begins with thinking about walls and their storytelling capacities. Egidio Panzera, in his research conducted for Faram, creates Nicandro, a system that can be connected to the principles of bio-adaptive lighting, regulating intensity and color temperature, in line with natural circadian rhythms. At night, when no one is awake, the blue light is activated to kill bacteria. The lines of light can also be used as signage for escape routes or emergency lighting. The panels can slide and contain hidden monitors, sound-absorbing panels, roller blinds or sliding ones, slates, bookcases, screens for biophilic installations. The walls can also be equipped with a built-in liquid crystal system that makes them transparent or opaque, depending on the privacy needs of the moment.
