“Restart” was the key term in the virtual press conference today, when the upper echelons of the associations involved officially announced the new dates of the design event par excellence, the Salone del Mobile. Next year the fair shifts from April to September, in a situation we can only hope will be one of total safety. The appointment has been set for 5-10 September 2021, with all the sectors, including the Biennials, invited to take part in what will be the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Salone.
A date that should be “the beginning of a rebound for companies, in Milan and in Italy,” says the President of the Salone, Claudio Luti.
As of today, the new timing and the expanded range of participation are the novelties of the situation; other updates will be forthcoming. Few new developments, then, but at least some certainties, interrupting the silence of the last few months on the part of the fair as it comes to grips with the planning of the upcoming edition: “We have worked hard over the last two months, and it has not been easy for the Milan Fair to adapt to this decision –Luti continues. – We have to make sure that this date becomes important, and this Salone becomes a very special opportunity.”
This close synergy created with Fiera Milano is another certainty, for the outlining of a calendar that jibes with the needs of the various events held in the spaces at Rho. The result is that “September becomes a system,” says the CEO of Fiera Milano, Luca Palermo: “We intend to expand the calendar to assign greater value to this period, and to be a platform, here at Fiera Milano, to facilitate the restart.” The Salone will in fact be followed by Homi and the initiatives connected with fashion.
This thinking is shared by Enrico Pazzali, President of Fondazione Fiera Milano, which aims to generate “a major systemic operation for a rebound not just in this sector, but across the entire industry and the country.” On this theme of the “system,” the Foundation has already been working – together with SEA and the Milan Polytechnic – towards the use of a health passport, to guarantee total safety for the event.
“We believe in the growth of the country, and the Salone will be the emblem from which Italy can start over,” was the gist of the contribution of the President of Confindustria Carlo Bonomi, confirmed by the words of the new President of FederlegnoArredo, Claudio Feltrin: “The Salone will mark the transition from pre- to post-Covid.
