Design Miami 2020: here the novelties

Design Miami comes back from 27 November to 6 December featuring a format between virtual and physical

Design Miami comes back, from 27 November to 6 December, at The Moore Building in the Miami Design District. Among the novelties, Design Miami/Podium, conceived by curatorial director Aric Chen, a selection of 139 pieces created by 57 designers, spanning from historic artefacts to contemporary works to present a diverse and inclusive look at the theme America(s). Theme that aims to shows the different sides of America, from Native Americans to the Black Lives Matter movement.

All the exhibited works will be available to view and purchase virtually via Design Miami/ Shop which will also host the first digital Design Miami/ Forum talks series. There will be hosted big names as Virgil AblohAdam Silverman and Katie Stout, conversations that will include Reconstructions: Architecture and Blackness in America, which is being led by The Museum of Modern Art in the run-up to its highly-anticipated upcoming exhibition of the same name.

Design Miami/ welcomes international design galleries, as Carpenters Workshop Gallery will present Bright Future, an exhibition of colorful, sculptural and whimsical light works, featuring new work by Nacho Carbonell and iconic designs by Studio Job and Stuart Hayarth.

Many partners of the event will come back including Perrier-Jouët, that every year commissions emerging and established talents to reinterpret the brand’s enduring relationship with art and nature. This year the Maison renews its long-standing collaboration with Austrian design practice mischer’traxler to present Curiosity Cloud, a focus on biodiversity, to promote the sustainable viticulture and the reduction of its own environmental impact.

Lexus partners with Tosin Oshinowo, an architect and designer based in Nigeria, and the British-Ghanaian textiles designer Chrissa Amuah to present a one-of-kind conceptual design collaboration. USM joins Design Miami/ with Die Wunderkammer,  an onsite experiential installation of art and streetwear created by Kevin Jones of Joba Studio and Don C of RSVP Gallery.

Irthi, association working to empower women professionally and socially, presents an exclusive online sale of handmade works from artist-makers from the MENASEA and Central Asian regions along with an inspiring conversation about how we can all support design and architecture practices to revive Beirut.

And Maison de mode, global platform for sustainable fashion, joins with an online sale of its sustainable, luxe Amen Candles, along with a fascinating panel discussion on the future of circular design, featuring panelists Hassan Pierre, Burak Cakmak, Jan Berbee, and more.
