A more evocative name could not have been chosen for the bath furnishings collection designed by Yabu Pushelberg for Salvatori, an initial collaboration with the Tuscany-based company. A vital and spiritual ‘breath’ of material, in fact, emerges in all its delicacy and beauty the pieces of the Anima collection.
The bathtub, the mirror, the washstands arranged on column stands or countertops, together with a range of coordinated accessories, like the cabinets or the wall-mounted towel racks, seem to be shaped by hands, as if made from ductile material. “We have applied the sensibility of clay to marble,” the designers say.
The Canadian duo has a passionate experimental approach to stone – four different varieties have been used, from White Carrara to Crema d’Orcia, Pietra d’Avola to Gris du Marais – giving rise to organic forms, soft curves and roundness, an aesthetic viaticum for historical memory enclosed in each different material. “We like to get beyond appearances – they continue – concentrating on the effect and the sensations our projects trigger in people.”
In effect, in Anima perceptible vibrations are transmitted by the silky workmanship (for the eyes and the touch), by the polished stone, the always different grain of the marble, thanks to the all-Italian expertise of master craftsman, a heritage of Salvatori since the founding of the company in 1946. Know-how combined with a taste for design and for absolute technical innovation, making the firm become the ‘brand of stone’ and of luxurious spaces.
