NYCxDesign Awards: triumph for Made in Italy

Scavolini, Molteni&C, Agape, Glas Italia, are just some of the Italian brands that were winners at the fifth edition of the NYCxDesign Awards, in a virtual prize ceremony

Though NYCxDesign has been postponed till October, the traditional related contest took place as expected. The fifth edition of the NYCxDesign Awards, as usual, honored outstanding products and projects in a range of categories. This year the event unfolded in a virtual ceremony, rather than at the usual Seaport Pier 17. Many Italian brands were winners in the Product sections, thanks to their creativity, innovation and design.

Starting with Glas Italia, winner in the Architectural Products category with Sherazade Slide Patchwork, a door with a colorful geometric design whose surface is divided into four segments in which to place different types of tempered glass, available in a vast range of finishes.
Agape takes honors in the Bath Fixtures category thanks to the Immersion Collection designed by Neri&Hu, with oriental influences: a washbasin and tub with rounded forms in biobased Cristalplant®, ideals for limited spaces.
Molteni&C stands out in the Residential Furniture section thanks to the Twelve AM Collection (again by the duo Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu), a series for the bedroom zone where typically oriental synthesis meets warm, enveloping materials like wood. A series of accessories and complements (a bench that becomes an alcove, lateral trays and a cantilevered shelf behind the headboard) improve the functional quality.
In the Storage category, Scavolini triumphs with BoxLife (design Studio Rainlight™), a modular, fluid furnishings program that permits linear, corner or gulf solutions, where the protagonist is the paneling: from cabinets with vanishing doors (single and double) for appliances, to the entire kitchen; from the living area to the bedrooms, as well as sliding systems for the wardrobe, and folding doors for all needs, including the laundry zone.

In Health + Wellness: the winner is Yoku Sh by Effegibi, a perfect blend of age-old traditions of the sauna and steam bath with innovative cutting-edge technology; the recessed glazings and vertical architectural elements in natural wood stand out.
The inevitable focus on sustainability puts the spotlight on Sacco Goes Green by Zanotta, winner in the Greater Good: Social + Environmental Impact category. Reissued in a ‘green’ version for its 50th, the piece now contains BioFoam® pellets by Synbra, in an enclosure made with ECONYL®.
In the variegated field of outdoor furnishings, Roda takes the podium for the Outdoor Seating sub-section with Piper 161: a teak structure completed by a back in polyester or acrylic belting, with a wide range of colors. Designed by Rodolfo Dordoni.
Finally, a world of fabrics. Peter Marino for Venetian Heritage by Rubelli wins the Residential Fabric section: a collection that is “Venetian like a work by Titian,” the designer says; a joyful sequence of vibrant curves that remind us of a stormy sea. The colors are those of the paintings full of light of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo: white, blue, aqua.

Special mentions went to:

Roller Kitchen by Exteta, Intarsio by Cesar, Islands by Living Divani, Componibili Bio by Kartell, Storage by Porro, Riquadro Elegante Bespoke by Snaidero, Gilda CM by Zanotta,  Xi Light Collection by Poltrona Frau,  Illan by Luceplan, Diversion by Flos Architectural,  Gregor by Molteni&C, Greene by Living Divani, Folio by Nardi, Telar Collection by Paola Lenti.
