Living Divani: happy anniversary

Two classics of the Como-based company, Bloom and Wall, reach their 20th year of existence and ratify the company’s role as a timeless icon of modernity

Not just furniture that proudly brings the value of Made in Italy into the world, in terms of beauty and quality. Bloom and Wall by Living Divani, each with its own unique character, have made their way across the new millennium thus far by introducing aesthetic innovations, suggesting original interactions and different ways of approaching relaxation. Thanks to their revolutionary ability to define behaviors and tastes in a changing society, the two upholstered creations, respectively by Piergiorgio Cazzaniga and Piero Lissoni, have progressed through two decades, remaining timely and free to change their appearance with playful nonchalance, acting as true muses of interior design. Simple in form but complex in design, the shell in birch plywood of Bloom suggests a flower about to open – as the name says – supported by a structure in matte satin steel: an enveloping chalice in which color is used in harmonious contrast to the covering of the seat in cowhide or leather.

On the other hand, the seats, backs and armrests of the Wall sofa are ‘tiles’ in unusual sizes that form a free composition, to create infinite solutions. They are so flexible – with their squared lines and vivid corners – that they have evolved into some of the brands leading models, such as Extra Wall and its softer variation Extrasoft. After all, from the early 1970s to the present, the dialogue with modernity has always been Living Divani’s precise pathway. The collaboration with Piero Lissoni has been of great strategic impact, since 1988 in the dual role of art director and designer, an orchestrator with a unique, recognizable style. He has been joined over the years by a series of internationally acclaimed designers, but also young creators who have reached the company thanks to extensive talent scouting, to widen horizons with different visions, always with a common denominator of harmony and delicacy of form.

A brand in constant motion and evolution, which has made upholstered furniture its trademark in a series of fertile episodes: the passage to the second generation at the helm of the company; the approach to the dynamics of a market in metamorphosis; an expanded offering that has developed from the living area to the bedroom zone, outdoor spaces and a contract division with worldwide distribution that accounts for 85% of sales; and the entry in Altagamma, putting the finishing touch on an international position of culture and Italian style at the high end of the market.
