Antonio Citterio was commissioned by Maxalto to create furnishings that tried to withstand the passage of years, decades. The style of the 2020 catalogue is defined modern neoclassical because their forms and finishes are filtered by the contemporary perspective of an Italian architect. The new proposals were presented during the evening of January 16th in the brand’s Paris showroom.

Paris comes alive with new proposals that rediscover materials not used in the latest collections. So for the Alcor series of cabinets and tables, the latest collection reprises the use of Chilean Tineo wood, with a damier (checkerboard) motif. There are more metal structures to support the tables and cabinets, in cast aluminium treated with finishes that make it resemble burnished bronze.
An ample area (about 400 m2) has been set aside for these items since January in the Paris showroom, approached as a series of communicating rooms for the various functions of decor: a large home where the objects imply domestic rituals of social interaction, food and rest, in an atmosphere marked by the use of “charred” wood paneling, treated with a technique derived from the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban. The result is a unique mixture of European and oriental taste, a Zen touch for what on the whole is the sensation of a comfortable, reassuring universe.
Even in such a crucial space, there had to also be a central focus on experimentation: it is
the Atelier, an area set aside for the display and testing of fabrics and materials, to personalize colors, finishes and styles in homes, each one different from the others, by its very nature. Together, interior designers and clients can thus choose the solutions that best reflect individual tastes and/or the ways they are represented in the domestic setting.
Alcor, Maxalto
Among the novelties in greater evidence there is Alcor a family of cabinets, sideboards and consoles marked by rigorous aesthetic paired with precious wood surfaces, expression of the excellence of Maxalto’s artisan processes.
Offered in different configurations, dimensions and heights, with hinged and flap doors, drawers and open compartments, these pieces have an inlaid damier checker board pattern in various woods to choose from: tineo, natural wenge and oak in the various finishes included in the collection (light brushed, black brushed, grey and smoked oak). The collection also includes three dining tables that are decorated with the checker board motif on the top and come in two rectangular sizes (cm.230×100 and cm.290×100) and one square version (cm.145×145). The entire series has a visually light structure with aluminium supports painted in graphite and amber finishes.
