The Global Grad Show, from 12 to 16 November, is a gathering for students at design schools, but also schools of engineering, science and technology, from all over the world. On view, degree projects from over 100 universities, with first-time participation from Ghana, Kenya, Colombia, the Philippines and Kuwait.
The initiative – now at its 5th iteration – is curated this year by Eleanor Watson and tackles themes like health, social aid, disabilities, biodiversity, the environment and sustainable cities. There is also the Impact Education Forum on the contribution of universities to global development. Finally, a new feature this year is the Entrepreneurship Program for the development of ideas in startups.

Today’s neuropsychological tests do not provide objective information and quantitative data. So the students Michael Yates, Varun Sanghvi and Parker Murray from the University of Pennsylvania have created Jarvis, a mixed-reality visor that permits synchronized real time measurement of brain waves and eye movements in an immersive, real testing environment.

Raphael Sanchez, Francesco Giordano and Zeynep Tulumen of the Collège des Ingénieurs in Turin present Spectrum Lab, a paint that changes color based on temperature. The paint is applied to the roof: if it is warm, it becomes bright white to reflect sunlight and keep the interior cool. In the winter, it absorbs the sun’s rays and warms the building.

In precision farming, technology meets production. Juan José Martínez Guerrero, a student at the European Design Institute in Spain, has developed Polino, a drone designed to monitor, manage and extend the process of natural pollination in zones where it is needed, without invading or damaging the ecosystem.

Tobias Trübenbacher, a student at the Berlin University of the Arts, has invented Ignis, a system that transforms warmth into energy, based on thermo-electric technology. A technique to produce light and electrical current in places and countries where there is no access to electricity. It works with any heat source, from burners to candles.
EpiTent ‘a tent that breathes’, Grace Nakibaala, Makere University, Uganda
EpiTent
EpitTent is a solution designed to overcome heat and humidity. It is a portable habituation solution for rural areas in Africa, which can lower the interior temperature by 10°C and cut down humidity by over 95%. The tent can improve the lives of caregivers and during emergency healthcare service provision.
