How to combine fashion, design, art and history

From the Medusa to the 1990s Vintage logo, from ancient Greece to the Baroque, from the first outdoor furniture collection and wallpaper to the many interior design projects all over the world. The Versace approach is always inimitable, total, multidisciplinary

The latest collection of scented candles in porcelain by Rosenthal for Versace are a refined concentrate, on a small scale, of the inimitable Versace style: Medusa, Gala, Vanity, Le Jardin de Versace, Les Étoiles de la Mer, La Scala del Palazzo, Prestige Gala and I Love Baroque. While the names suggest the aesthetic language always proposed by the fashion and lifestyle brand, the striking multicolored motifs of the small vases underline the iconic mixture of ancient civilizations and pop imagery that has always been a Versace forte.

The Medusa and fretwork images recur, ornamental themes that since 1992 have been the trademarks of the creations of Versace Home, initially focusing on home fabrics and tableware, with the latter made in a long-term partnership with Rosenthal, and then extended starting in 1994 to include furnishings, complements and accessories. The Medusa also peeks out, with a golden finish, from the feet of the upholstered furnishings of the Rhapsody series – covered in Technicolor Baroque jacquard fabric – created for the living or bedroom zone, to reinterpret the Versace legacy with a contemporary twist. She has also given her name to another collection, in 2019.

Medusa includes sofas, armchairs, tables and beds with structures in ash, glossy black finishing and details in marble, metal and fumé glass, developed with curved lines that suggest the snaky locks of the mythological being, which becomes brashly Pop in the series of bright, acid colors Medusa Pop. In this case the chair with the Medusa head in 3D relief on the back is accompanied by a coffee table/stool in laminated glass, with a cubic form. To other collections have also been presented for 2019.

Logomania is composed of sofas and armchairs in leather, with ash structures, legs with glossy black finish, details in velvet and the 1990s logo on forceful geometric forms. There is also Jungle, named for its covering with a tropical floral print used in spring/summer 2000, made famous by a dress created for Jennifer Lopez.

The first Versace Home line for the outdoors is composed of sofas, armchairs, cots, and a large ‘rocking’ bed.
As usual, the furnishings collections are completed by lines of fine fabrics, cushions, bedding and bath sets, but also accessories for the table, all created together with Rosenthal, to convey a total look that has always been a feature of the brand. Recently ceramic tiles have also been introduced, in collaboration with Gardenia Orchidea, as well as wallpaper, together with AS Creation; keeping faith with the Versace DNA, they blend design, history, art and fashion.

The Versace Ceramics lines are three in number: Eterno, inspired by the Japanese woodworking technique Shou Sugi Ban; Olympus, with a shiny 3D structure that emphasizes the fretwork, the Versace symbol par excellence; and Solid Gold, rich in micro and macro Baroque motifs combined with the 90s Vintage logo on a gilded surface.

There are now more patterns for the Versace IV wallpapers, still with a focus on the Baroque and ancient Greece, vintage prints or tropical fantasies: La Scala del Palazzo, Barocco Metallics, Heritage, Découpage, Barocco Birds, Eterno. From the total look generated by the whole of the collections, it has been just a short step to the complete interior design of residences, buildings and resorts. For a few years now a team of architects and interior designers, guided by Donatella Versace, has worked with clients and developers to bring the glamour and style of Versace to various architectural projects all over the world, from the first Palazzo Versace in 2000 on the Gold Coast of Australia to the recent resort in Dubai, while the opening of a Palazzo Versace in Macao is slated for 2020. There are also many residential interior design projects, including the already completed Milano Residences in Manila, Damac Residences at Jeddah, and the Damac Tower in Beirut, while the ABIL Mansion in Mumbai, Damac Tower in London and the Iconic Tower in Amaryllis, Central Delhi, are now under construction.
