London Design Fair lights up

The Old Truman Brewery hosts many of the fair’s initiatives: from the debut of the Bathroom Gallery to the area on the Arab Emirates, and a technical lighting show

From 19 to 22 September Shoreditch, the creative heart of London, hosts the London Design Fair, a 4-day event that brings together 550 exhibitors from 40 countries. Growing numbers with respect to last year, for a fair that happens in an evocative, fascinating place: the Old Truman Brewery in post-industrial style. The event is part of the program of the London Design Festival.

London Design Fair, now at its fourth iteration, began its history in 2016 thanks to the merger of Tent London, founded in 2007, and Super Brands. Each year over 29,000 people from around the world attend the fair, including retail buyers, producers, architects, designers, interior designers, journalists and sector experts, to learn about new developments in furniture, lighting, fabrics and materials, and to see conceptual installations. This year bath furnishings are also on view, with a special exhibition titled The Bathroom Gallery, in collaboration with ELLE Decoration UK.

Highlights of this edition include the presence of the Arab Emirates as Guest Country, presenting a collection of objects made by hand by over forty artisans, through the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council: a project that promotes female economic independence.
The exhibition “D(arc) Room” on technical lighting solutions occupies the second floor of the Old Truman Brewery. Companies taking part in the initiative include Linea Light, Delta Light and Buzzispace.
Italy is also a protagonist. In collaboration with ICE, the brands of Made in Italy, including Ceramica Bardelli, Ceramica Globo, Alterego Divani and Maiullari Cucine, are setting up an “Italian Loft.”
