Barcelona Design Week reaches 14

Until 20 June, the week on Catalan design is back. This year’s theme is ‘Transitions’ and puts the accent on sustainable growth

Catalonia confirms its role as a land of design. The 14th edition of Barcelona Design Week comes to a conclusion on 20 June: 9 days enlivened by an interesting program of events, workshops, installations, debates and conferences. An event that has become an important appointment for sector professionals, following the exhibition that was a protagonist of the FuoriSalone 2019 in Milan, Inspired in Barcelona: Mediterranean Design.

BDW is organized by Barcelona Centre de Disseny and Foment de les Arts i del Disseny, with the support of the Ajuntament de Barcelona and the Generalitat de Calanunya. The organizers have set two objectives: to bring design to the widest possible audience, and to increase international visibility of the Catalan furniture industry, with almost 1800 companies and annual sales of half a billion euros.

The initiatives throughout the city gravitate around the theme “Transitions” which suggests an evolution towards a society capable of conserving the natural balance of the planet, in a perspective of progress that makes human beings its central focus, a fundamental factor for truly sustainable development.

Italy is also a protagonist, with the exhibition The search for the borderline between useful and useless by Mario Trimarchi. The show presents a collection of drawings that narrate the story of different products, playing with the invisible boundary between idea and reality, dreams and the truth of things.
