Carl Hansen & Son: setting records

The company’s annual report for 2018 indicates a ninth consecutive year of growth: sales reach a level of 84.1 million, the highest in the company’s history

Good news for Carl Hansen & Son Holding A/S. The Danish firm has racked up record-setting numbers, confirming a trend of continuous growth that should lead, according to estimates, to income of 134 million euros (1 billion Danish kroner) in 2022.

For the ninth consecutive year Carl Hansen & Son reports continuing growth. The balance sheet for 2018 reports sales of 84.1 million, the highest in 111 years of the brand’s history (for an increase of 26.3%, over 2017, 1.4 million euros). The best results are on the North American and European markets, with respective gains of 45.5% and 32%.

A decisive factor has been the opening of four new flagship stores on three continents, along with digital transformation. Without overlooking the furniture itself, the true protagonist of the company’s operations. Records were also set by the icons designed by Hans J. Wegner, more in demand than ever before: the famous CH24 chair was the bestselling product in 2018.
Over the last 12 months the company has celebrated its 110th anniversary. For the occasion, Carl Hansen & Son produces the Wishbone chair from the 1950s in 8 new colors.

Other articles posting upward trends are the Hunting table by Børge Mogensen, the Society table by Arne Jacobsen, as well as the CH71 chair and CH72 sofa by Hans J. Wegner.
