Smeg and Dolce & Gabbana, That’s Amore

Artistic&Traditional is the exhibition dedicated to the latest collaboration between Smeg and the D&G fashion house, inspired by the Carretto Siciliano, Sicilian Cart, and on display at Metropol for the duration of Design Week

A triumph of colours, an anthem to an authentic element of Sicilian culture, a leap into Italian artistic tradition. The union between Smeg and Dolce&Gabbana renews itself on occasion of Milano Design Week with a new lifestyle project, this time inspired by the Carretto Siciliano, or Sicilian Cart.

After the hand-painted Art Refrigerators and the small Sicily Is My Love and Divina Cucina home appliances, new iconography comes to life on Smeg’s products, exalting an ancient and whimsical creativity that stimulates the interaction between the two worlds of fashion and interior design.

Art acts as a trait d’union, contributing to the creation of the ideal setting for this all-new representation. Within the former Metropol movie theatre on Viale Piave in Milan, an unexpected exhibition entitled Artistic&Traditional was mounted, entirely dedicated to the synergistic collaboration between this manufacturer of home appliances and the famous fashion house and to the result of the their latest interaction.

The colours of the Carretto Siciliano, its unique patterns, its multi-coloured narrative scenes and iconic characters adorn toasters and blenders, coffee maker and citrus juicers, which are displayed in the space like true works of art to be admired and contemplated in all of their surprising beauty. They are, in fact, the result of equally skilled artisan craftsmanship, of a love for ‘hand made’ and for Italian history and culture.

It is only natural therefore to display these alongside Dolce&Gabbana’s clothing, jewellery, scarves, and purses, all inspired by the motif of this Sicilian folklore that is so dear to the fashion duo.

The hallway, thus punctuated by these unusual ‘pairs’ leads to the most admirable triumph of this unique luxury experience: three designer displays encapsulate three residential environments, conceptual showcases in which different dimensions (modern-traditional, as well as décor-fashion-art) overlap perfectly with one another.
