China closer and closer

A review of the products being presented by companies participating in Design Shanghai, scheduled to take place from 6 to 9 March

In every area of our lives distances are becoming less, so much so that even China no longer seems that far away. In recent years the Chinese market’s interest in design has grown exponentially. As a result so has cross-contamination between tastes and styles that were once drastically different from one another.
Thus, Design Shanghai, a trade show now approaching its sixth edition, has set itself the objective of promoting local and international design equally.

The Shanghai Exhibition Centre will be hosting more than 400 brands that have drawn inspiration from the 2019 theme “New Materials and Applications Hall”, and are subdivided into the following categories: Contemporary, Classic & Luxury, Collectibles, Kitchen & Bathroom, and Workplace Design.
The exhibition space will be 20% larger as compared to the previous edition, with products presented by designers and local companies that manage to combine innovation and luxury, drawing inspiration from Western brands. Design Shanghai represents a bridge between Chinese designers and, in particular, European and American designers, allowing them to meet and work on new creative projects together, thus contributing the best of the two worlds.

Both Chinese and international companies will be participating in the exhibition at the SEC, with a strong Italian representation. Among the brands that will be present are: Knoll, Ceppi Style, Marac, Medea, MisuraEmme, Roche Bobois, Vismara, Zaha Hadid Design, Martinelli Luce, Alessi, Alpi, Abet Laminati, Saint Louis, Fermob, Flos, Franke, Gervasoni, Littala, Jacuzzi, and Tonino Lamborghini.

Here is an overview of some of the products being showcased in Shanghai.
