Calvin Klein‘s project for its official debut at Design Miami/Basel moves between sectors. Fashion and design converge, with the exclusive involvement of Cassina and one of its most famous pieces, the Feltri armchair, designed by Gaetano Pesce in 1987.
But design also combines with culture and craftsmanship in the new interpretation of the product, which becomes the unique protagonist of a striking installation, named “An Expansive International Landscape”, within the exhibition show dedicated to design collectors taking place from June 12 to 17.
Raf Simons, Chief Creative Officer of Calvin Klein, has chosen quilts inspired by the American Amish community of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as the original upholstery of the armchair. These textiles are emblematic of the American cultural heritage and of the simplicity of craftsmanship as an unchangeable value of the past, replacing the thick wool felt of the original project in a hundred limited edition pieces.
The limited-edition armchairs numbered 1-50 will be previewed as part of a large-scale installation by CALVIN KLEIN at Design Miami/ Basel in June 2018. These pieces will be available for purchase at the Fair while the remaining 50-100 will be made available for purchase through Cassina at a later date.
