Agronomist Goes to New York

Natuzzi’s  new collection created in collaboration with Marcel Wanders is presented in New York in a new total black look

Natuzzi and Marcel Wanders join forces once again, after the exclusive and more than successful collaboration that made them protagonists of the Milanese scene on the occasion of the previous Design Week.
The synergy between the Puglia-based company and the Dutch creative is now expressed in an exclusive and very appealing remake of the Agronomist collection, officially launched at the Salone del Mobile.Milano: the limited edition changes the original features and atmosphere, typically inspired by Puglia and its tradition, to celebrate the city of New York and its most mysterious soul, like a modern “Gotham City”.

In the setting of NYCxDesign, the collection finds an ideal showcase, specifically in the Natuzzi flagship store situated on Madison Avenue, which displays the collection from May 19-24, following the inauguration event “Agronomist Goes to New York”, on Thursday 17, organized in collaboration with the non-profit partner Housing Works, national leader in the fight against HIV / AIDS.

“We asked ourselves: what would happen if the Agronomist’s concept moved into the urban context of New York? We have embraced a new culture without losing our identity, but rather strengthening it, in order to look to the future with curious eyes towards every type of diversity and nurturing the awareness of our roots”, explains Pasquale Junior Natuzzi, Chief Marketing and Communication Officer of Natuzzi.

In this context the Furrow sofa, a symbol of the collection, originally upholstered in vintage leather with reddish-brown shades and finished with saddle stitching, is now dressed in black leather (20 pieces in total) enhanced by Old School style tattoos on the upholstery (swallows, daggers, roses, pin-ups, hearts, hands, skulls…), made by employing the technique of embroidery on leather: 12 million stitches to compose 70 tattoos. The leather is Heritage, in a black colour created specifically for the limited edition in the Natuzzi Italia tannery. “Created specifically for NYCxDesign, this iconic edition of the Furrow sofa celebrates New York as Gotham City – says Gabriele Chiave, Art Director of Marcel Wanders Studio – it pays homage to one of the most fanciful, underground and dark identities of the city. This New York Edition is rebellious and legendary as the city and becomes a current icon.

Similarly, the Barrow coffee table (inspired by a rural wheelbarrow) draws new energy from the dark beech wood; or the Create container, which maintains the door panel with the olive leaf motif in 3D effect, but proposes it on Heritage leather with tone-on-tone thread. Or the Peacock carpet with its mirrored pattern in black and white, inspired by the plumage of the namesake bird.
