“This presentation is special for me, as I grew up between L.A. and Milan, spending summers visiting my grandfather who was a rug dealer in Milan,” explains Los Angeles-based interior designer Natasha Baradaran. She’s found an apt venue at Tearose, the hybrid lifestyle and fashion concept boutique and floral studio where Baradaran will present her third furniture collection dubbed ANDRO as part of Milan Design Week from April 17 through 22.
The pieces reflect Baradaran’s diverse influences, which range from fashion to Italian midcentury design to her family’s background in the jewelry business, as well as evolving conversations around androgyny and gender identity. The Wrap Chair references Diane Von Furstenberg’s iconic clothing designs, while the Liv coffee table and bench use wood, brass, lacquer and leather to explore bold geometry.
Baradaran’s work reflects a sense of place, too. Her mother still lives in the Italian design capital, and “the city has served as a source of inspiration for as long as I can remember,” she says. At her Tearose popup, she’s excited about “the idea of mixing various inspirations together into one vision [that] is shared between my work and the philosophy of this special shop.” The ANDRO collection will be available in select showrooms in the U.S. after the Milan preview concludes.
