Rosenthal and Versace: 25 years of magic at the table

Rosenthal meets Versace celebrates the 25th anniversary of the beginning of the two brands’ collaboration with a stunning installation at the Versace boutique in Paris

An array of colours showcased through sophisticated decorative patterns on the finest collections of porcelain. The collaboration between Rosenthal and Versace celebrates a lifestyle focusing on the concept of beauty in that most social, convivial of contexts: the table. Having reached its 25th anniversary, the iconic partnership is celebrating with a very special event running alongside Maison&Objet. The exclusive Versace boutique, located in the elegant setting of Paris’ Avenue Montaigne, has created a unique display to showcase the Rosenthal meets Versace tableware range and the Limited Edition collection released specifically for the occasion, featuring twenty-five tea cups and saucers adorned with twenty-five symbolic decorations that have defined this extraordinary collaboration since its conception in 1992.

There is the bright colour of Le Roi Soleil (1993), which conjures up memories of the ancient Roman mosaics and the murals of Pompeii, while Le Jardin de Versace (1996) has a more bucolic feel, evoking images of sumptuous Louis XVI-style gardens. In Marqueterie (1999), Donatella Versace has combined the brand’s opulent style with a new, simpler sense of elegance, alternating between blacks and whites. Les rêves Byzantins (2010) is packed with the magic of Arabian nights, with historical and exotic influences clear to see. The brand’s classic iconography returns for Medusa Blu (2001), with its mix of Baroque and classic styles, bright colours and gold sections culminating in the head of the Medusa. Legendary mythological figures – this time from Asian culture – appear in Asian Dream, a collection dominated by vibrant colouring and lush, Baroque patterns.

La Scala del Palazzo is the last instalment in the Paris installation – part gallery, part museum. The 2018 collection draws inspiration from the marble staircase at the Palazzo Versace in Milan’s Via Gesù. The architectural style of the collection is softened by the use of greens and pastel pinks, echoing the classic facades of the quintessential Italian palazzi.
