Launched in 2002 by Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, which itself has built up a highly prestigious reputation over the past 60 years, Stockholm Design Week (6-12 February) has become a must-not-miss date in the international events circuit. Conceived as a sort of meeting place unconfined by the various event pavilions, it reinforces its stature year after year with a collection of 14 events and initiatives scattered throughout the city. And while the event is partially targeted at industry pros and specialist members of the public, the 2017 programme has plenty of others events going on too, from special openings of galleries and showrooms to dinners, cocktail parties, previews and talks.
Arper, Artek and Duravit will throw open the doors to their showrooms, with Bolon set to introduce their new Innovators at Heart initiative. Kvadrat have invited Doshi Levien to present his architectural installation Pilotis, while a visit to Nationalmuseum Design to see the Eero Aarnio exhibition is strongly advised. These are just a few of the events happening across the city, providing alternatives to the event pavilions of Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair (7-11 February) in Stockholmsmässan, where Spanish designer Jaime Hayon will be guest of honour.
