Space for Californian craftsmanship

ShopFloor is the exclusive location of the San Francisco Design Week, which hosts the event Emerging Bay Area Designers: Business of Design. A panel discussion about growing sustainability is followed by an exhibition of pieces made by young, local designers

The young promises of today will be the greats of tomorrow. San Francisco Design Week wisely knows this concept: on June, from 6 to 7, ShopFloor framed the initiative Emerging Bay Area Designers: Business of Design, that highlights local designers and craftsman. Iconic pieces signed by Californian talents catch the eye of guests and speakers who partecipate to the panel discussion about sustainably growing a design company from limited production to an international scale.

ShopFloor Design – founded by David Whippen – focuses on custom metalwork, from custom design pieces and fine art sculpture to fabrication and machining. In 2014, David and his wife Christina expanded the shop to include a showroom which exhibits not only their own work, but local and national designers with a focus on custom built, limited production design. This is the reason for the partnership with the seven day event of the city, which chose the store as official location. Close to the metalworks by ShopFloor Design, found space the furniture realized by J ListonDesign with diverse materials, and also the pieces of blankblank. This brand’s mission is to facilitate the design, manufacture, sales and support of innovative, heirloom-quality design products. The eclecticism of Alexis Moran is visible in her products, unique and similar to real installations, such as the creations signed by Mike Danielson Studio. Those creations are furniture and lightings which exalt contrasts in order to realize sculpture-pieces that keep their functionality. Finally, Galanter&Jones, two brothers who debut with a line of outdoor seats, continuing with external furnishings.
